A blinding light showers in through the airplane's window, reflecting off translucent ocean waves so clear one can see turtles, seals, even dolphins wading underneath. Vacation life beckons, as toes expand and retract in the soft, scorched sands. On the left, distant radio chatter fizzles into oblivion. On the right, boardwalk bustle incites island vivacity. Set in the center of it all, content merely existing in this paradise, is you.
Exotic wildlife flutters overhead, as foreign languages yelp to the pitter-patter of cushioned steel drums. It's a new world, defined by unity amongst all. Each sound circling your cranium operates in absolute harmony. The birds screech, waves crash, echoes of a beat-up jalopy skitter down the nearby street. Hidden behind sunglasses, closed eyes and a tilted, listless head perceive these vibrations with heightened tactility. Much like a slight breeze, it all effortlessly passes you by.
With a whiff of smoke, you awaken from a paradisal stupor. Beachside tiki torches light up, one by one, as bonfires reach high, scraping their limits with their last remaining embers. Commotion concentrates around this aureole, no different than the cavemen millions of years ago. Except this is by no means for survival. Drinks splashed aplenty, festive for the sole reason of there not being a care in the world. Speakers line the perimeter, a near-permeant distorted bass overwhelmed by the hoot and holler of these frolicsome patrons.
Drowned in booze, downed from dance, one sets their sights on a lonesome hammock. As the moon rises the island fades away, left to lull with a diurnal tide. Quiet befalls this once red-blooded getaway. Perhaps it's the unfamiliar firewater, or simple jet lag, but sheer contentment causes you to ascend in an out-of-body experience. Looking down, everything and everyone is at peace. Jellyfish illuminate the waters, so much as fireflies flicker through the undergrowth. Entering the clouds, where you once broke through on a graceful hunk of steel, one thing becomes clear: This is Island Paradise.
